All the getting down was just pure fun. There's nothing quite like John Travolta doing his thing. The pastey white British "full monty" arses always brought a smile to my face, my other half said it was the money shot.
As for Misunderstood, Puss is just my favourite Shrek character and so well observed in his cattiness, it was a homage to my boy cat, Bailey. The song seemed so obvious I was surprised it wasn't on the soundtrack, sometimes going with the obvious choice is the way to go.
The moving layers was done using the targa method but since I made this vid I have found a better alternative. You can import a section of avi into adobe Image Ready and do any masking on the whole sequence then export as single frames. It's way easier than the previous method. Of course, if I was any good at masking in After Effects it would be a doddle but I'm not as comfortable with the bezier curves and pen tool in AE as I am in PS. My method is definitely harder than it needs to be.
