Random tv musings
This is the time of year when all the TV shows I watch start to air sporadically and I struggle to keep track of them. So I took the opportunity to check through my list and I found that I have already dumped the majority of the shows I started with this season.
My loyalty to ex Buffy actors led me to try out “How I met your mother”, “Kitchen confidential” and “Bones”. I didn’t stick with any of them but I think I would probably be a casual viewer of “Bones” if it ever makes it across the Atlantic but I’m not going to actively seek it out.
I’ve never been a huge fan of crime or medical shows so I suppose I was unlikely to be blown away by “Bones”. The only procedural shows I’m still watching are “House” and “Cold Case”. I love the characters in “House” so I’m able to ignore the fact that I really don’t understand much about each medical mystery. “Cold Case” is kind of a guilty pleasure – I don’t think it is great telly but I quite like the social history and visualisations of the flashbacks.
I was hopeful that I would like the whole bunch of paranormal/alien shows that premiered this season but most of them failed to maintain my interest so I only watched a couple of eps of “Threshold”, “Surface”, “Invasion” and “Night Stalker”. I have found “Ghost whisperer” to be entertaining in a kind of unassuming sort of way. It doesn’t blow me away but it is a pleasant enough way to pass an hour. “Supernatural" is the only one of the new shows that has really gripped me. It has some proper scary moments and I find the focus on just the two brothers rather than a wider cast gives it quite unique feel.
Of the continuing series I have stuck with “Hex”. I still have a soft spot for it even though it is totally bonkers and refuses to follow even its own dubious logic. Although I have continued to watch “Alias” I do feel it is struggling this season. It seems to be generally assumed that this will be the last season and I hope that they will be able to deliver a decent finale because it would be a shame for it to go out on a whimper.
This brings me to my two favourites from last season “Lost” and “Veronica Mars”. I have to say that I have been quite disappointed in the second season of “Lost” so far. I know it is “Lost” and nothing should be taken for granted but the hatch reveal and the tail section survivors have not been great developments for me so far. I am keeping my fingers crossed that Ana-Lucia gets some character development and that something awful and permanent happens to Michael because his constant whining is really getting on my nerves now.
I haven’t noticed a lot of raving about “Veronica Mars” this season. I hope that doesn’t mean it is getting killed in the ratings because I am still very much in love with this show. I feel that second season has developed from the first, the new cast members are not jarring and the writing remains solid. I like the return of snarky Logan, the “Veronica Mars accuses me of evil” scene was just brilliant. I also like that Wallace has been given a bit more to do this season he is a great sidekick but Veronica does take him for granted and it is good to see him stand up for himself.
So there we have it - my not very interesting commentary on the shows I’ve been watching and the ones I’ve given up on. In fact this post is just a way of padding out yet another “look at my wallpapers” entry. :D

p.s. My vidding dry spell continues...I've had several ideas for vids in various fandoms but so far none of them have come to fruition.

I really like your two wallpapers and the way you played with only two pictures on the VM one!

Alias just doesn't feel the same anymore. Even the credits now focus on other characters instead of Sydney. I can't really cope with the introduction of that many new main characters in one go. Like you say it just doesn't feel like the same show anymore. I will feel robbed if they don't tie up at least some of the Rambaldi stuff this season.
Thanks for the wp comment. :)

LMAO. I'm so with you there.

I like that House WP, but I loooove the Veronica one. :D

I'm glad I'm not the only one still liking VM. I'm really enjoying the second season but I have the impression some people feel it hasn't lived up to it's potential.
Supernatural is definitely eye candy. There are starting to be more vids for it too which is great.

When I compare it with the death of a really minor character on VM this week, then I have to say that Abel and his daughter left a bigger impact in me and in more importantly in Veronica and we knew since Season 1 that he was a goner. Veronica’s second season never let me down so far, I know the bus crash and Felix murder aren’t everybody’s cup of tea, but I like both mysteries and the writing on every minor character is just so tight. I squeed when I saw Cliff, I smirk every time when I see Lamb, I miss Wallace and this is fantastic writing in my book. They are present, when they are needed, like Aaron this week, sure it’s not logical, but we all know Lamb is a jerk since the pilot, him mindfucking Logan with transporting Aaron into the country jail is totally in character. Keith visiting Aaron in the high security jail was also spot on and I love the way the small characters connect on VM or don’t. (For example when Wallace said in 1x21 that Logan used his paper and he don’t even know the guy.)
And for all the timeline issues, cheesy effects and sudden dawns of doom on Supernatural, the character development is just perfect between the brothers. You get both sides of their childhood story, different perspectives, which you can understand on both accounts and interesting and deep insights into their family dynamic and hell, it's just so much fun to watch. Plus I really believe that the writers know where both brothers are coming from, what their reasons for this journey are and I also love the fact, how they handle the investigations, whoever is up for the game or connects better with the victim is asking the questions. For example in 1x05 Bloody Mary while rewatching I realized that Sam is not saying a word, when they enter the morgue, because he is not up for it after his nightmare, only when Dean gets a No, he takes over with the money.
Medium and House are solid in their second seasons, both deliver interesting storylines and keep the characters real, while doing it. Greys Anatomy is cheese, but the good kind and a bit of guilty pleasure for me. Kitchen Confidential beats HImyM in the quirky humor and snark department, but with the early cancellation I stick with Aly for the time being. And I just watch Bones for DB, because I don’t care about the rest of the characters or the fact, that Bones won’t get any pop culture reference. Maybe I will warm up to them, but I’m not sure.
Oh, and I absolutely love both wallpaper styles, they fit their represented shows perfectly here and I'm out of words now... But I wanted to comment here for ages and never had the time to do it properly!

Firstly I hope the survivors had a stockpile of condoms because otherwise it is seriously irresponsible to risk an unwanted pregnancy even if the guy does have a Bedouin tent style seduction going on.
Secondly shame on you Lost for falling back on the "You have sex outside marriage something bad will happen" cliche.
Thirdly I am so annoyed that they gave us the reveal that actually Shannon wasn't the spoilt rich kid we thought she was and now I will never know how that horrible, twisted family dynamic played out. I will never see the gap between Shannon's flashback and Boone's filled in. And yet they have already given us several "Doctor Jack has daddy issues" and "see Kate she is on the run" eps.
The only good thing about the ep was that Claire finally realised that Charlie has just kind of plonked himself into her life without even consulting her.
Veronica Mars is easily my favourite show this season. The writing is smart and funny. The one off characters are given distinct identities so that you actually care about the outcome of the case of the week. I know that the bus crash isn't as devastating as Lilly's murder but I still think it is interesting. I'm not even missing the LoVe stuff. I still don't get the point of Duncan though he should be a really edgy character and yet he seems to be just the blandly handsome, nice guy boyfriend- strange.

The only reason I would keep him around is because Jin likes him.
