Okay, while there is no doubt, that cameras in hot spots like subway stations, malls or urban locations have their right to exist to prevent crimes, it doens't make a lot of sense in the environment you describe. In Germany they don't have the right to observe streets and public places and while the terror acts in London gave that discussion another shift, I must admit, that it wouldn't bother me when I go shopping on the Königsstraße in Stuttgart.
