Another one bites the dust

My computer hates me. Seriously. I reformatted 1 of my eternal hard drives only about 3 weeks ago and because it was the best out of the 2 externals I decided that was the one where I should back-up all of my vid projects trimmed files to. Oh what a mistake that was! It's cost me dearly. Saved projects, tutorials, digital juice files - gone. Thank ---- I have the master AVI's. RIP drive you have served me well. I do wish you had given me some warning you were ill though, and then I might have been able to help... or at least taken the burden of my files from you.

Damn.

ETA: I think I jinxed it by mentioning the vid yesterday...

My sympathy, babe, my unconditional sympathy! I absolutely hate that these fucker don’t give a warning before they die, instead they go out with a bang and the sound echoing through your room is your own head exploding, because this can’t be happening to you and finishing the work with a sledgehammer is tempting as hell… *sigh*

Thanks Astarte. It is so annoying it's reassuring little green light just sputtered out and my drive was no more. I was able to breathe life into it briefly by fiddling with the wires and sticking the drive in the fridge. It worked just long enough to con me into parting with cash for some recovery software before giving me the finger and flat-lining again. Gone, and never called me mother.

External hard drives are cold-hearted bastards this way, I was also able to recover some data back then with recovery software, but maybe five percent and this was so not worth it. At least I got a new drive because it gave out one week before the guarantee would have ended and I still haven’t learned my lesson, my last complete back up on DVD is a year old and on the other hard drive a month. I really should be more throughout to keep the back ups updated. Guess that means I should make one later tonight and I’m really sorry about this, because it’s such a bitch and if you start thinking about the hours lost? Well, the sledgehammer comes once again to mind…
