"My favourite video this year (of my own):
Probably "Devotion." I don't think that's just because it's my most recent I enjoyed every aspect of making it and I think it shows.


"My least favourite:
"Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood." I don't think it out and out sucks it's just that when I came up with the idea I thought there was more footage of Puss than there really was.As a result the vid in my head wasn't the one I made and that disappoints me.


Most successful video:
Taking into consideration downloads, comments, recs etc it has got to be "Don't Stop Me Now." It was relatively painless to make and further confirms that John Simm is my mancrush. 


Video most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
"Repectable" didn't do very well, although I believe I understand why, I still think it's a bit of a shame. Sweet Charity vids are sometimes hard.


Most fun video to make:
Making vids is fun? Rewarding and satisfying for sure, but fun not so much. I'll go with "Combat Honey" it was made for a speed challenge which freed me from my usual nitpicking and procrastination and as a result allowed me to just have fun plonking clips down. It's a bit of fluff and I love it for that.


Hardest video to make:
I used "Respectable" for this category last year and nothing this year comes close to that. "Devotion" was hard because of the technical difficulties I had. The source is showing it's age and working with 4:3 interlaced footage proved to be a challenge all of it's own. Plus the shear voluime of clips I ended up with caused major headaches, too much choice can sometimes be as stressful as not enough.Also premiere and the synths just wouldn't play nicely together.


The things I've learnt this year...
I've learnt not to fear avisynth. I wouldn't say I've made friends with it as such but the fear is definitely gone. I learnt a couple of cool things in after effects to do with cameras and lighting. I don't think there was any great leap forward this year though. One thing I did learn was that I actually work well when faced with the pressure of a deadline even as I resent it.


Things to work on in 2008
Last year I said I wanted to have more fun and I definitely hope that happens this year. It would be nice to maybe try something a bit more adventurous in terms of effects and to try to master action editing. I definitely feel I'm struggling with that. Also I don't want vidding to be my priority this year I want a life.


Vid projects I definitely want to get finished this year:
I'm not falling for that one this year. Last year I only managed two of the vids on my list. So I'll just say that I'm not short of projects just inspiration to complete them.

Oh, I definitely need it all, what there is of it. While we're doing the mutual admiration thing can I just say how awesome your vids have been this year. I've absolutely loved them all. When I watched your Lady Jane vid on a big screen it went from "oh pretty" to "OMG bloody brilliant!"

"Working Class Hero" is probably my favourite vid, by anyone, this year. So yeah, my talent, pfft.

Yeah, it was a bit of a shock. I hadn't really expected to be asked to vid Spike once and certainly not twice. "Respectable" and "Still Breathing" are very different though so I avoided covering the same ground.

Ooh I love that people are doing these. It leaves a nice little list of links to the December vids I missed.

FWIW, if you're struggling with action editing, it's definitely not apparent from the vids themselves. But I understand how we can often be our own worst critic when it comes to stuff like that.

Mainstream and Birth of Geisha are my two favorites from you this year, although I will have to go give the Xena vid a watch. :)

It's definitely handy that people are doing these, I had no idea I'd missed so many vids!

You're one of the people who edit action the way I wish I could; fast and spinning, yet flowing seamlessly. It's the sort of thing I wish I was more confident with, my stuff always feels a bit flat in comparison. Like you say though we tend to be hardest on ourselves. I think when I watch my own vids it's like watching a magic show when you've been told how all the tricks are done, you can appreciate the effort but the sense of wonder is gone.

Impressive list there, Charmax! But thats never a surprise :) If I had to say a favourite it would definately be Dont Stop Me Now. So. Much. Fun. Maybe one day I'll get around to making that companion piece...I haven't forgotten!

And maybe one day I'll get around to posting one of these things up. I had my biggest year in 2007 (by my standards) & it still pales into comparison to the amounts people are churning out! Too many other interests methinks...

Funny that Mainstream just happens to be at the top. :)
It's probably my favorite, followed closely by Devotion. And you're right about the Xena source, especially seasons 1 and 2. We watch "A Solstice Carol" every December and I swear it looks like they filmed it on sandpaper.

You know that I know very little of Supernatural, but I watched Deus Ibi Est anyway. The source is beautiful(and I'm not talking about the brothers) and even though I wasn't sure about the narrative, the editing was great. The end sequence in particular, where the dad is ummh, shimmering out timed to the beat is awesome.

I still have a huge soft spot for Mainstream and I thought I would vid more BSG but sadly it didn't pan out that way, maybe this year I'll revisit it.

The early Xena seasons are so patchy with some eps looking better than others, I've no idea what that's about. It's quite depressing when original source quality lets you down, season 1 and 2 of Buffy are also pretty unpleasant in that regard.

I'm glad you enjoyed Deus Ibi Est even though it's not your fandom. It's one of the vids I worked hardest on.
