Mo Mowlam dies at 55 it's very sad. She was one of the very few politicians that actually made any sense.  She is a huge loss to Britain.

The street where I live

I know in the lyric meme I did a little while ago I described my neighbourhood as

Who lives in a house like this
Who lives in a house like this
In number 18 there lives a big
Butch queen
He's bigger than Tyson and he's twice
As mean
In 666 there lives a Mr. Miller
He's our local vicar and a serial killer
(Space - Neighbourhood)

Now, when I put this I wasn't being entirely serious. I mean yes, we do have a few weirdos like the drunk next door, the neighbour that digs up your plants the minute you turn your back, the guy who has manic depression (though it wouldn't be politically correct of me to call him a weirdo - lets just say he is not "normal") the woman with 20 deranged kids and there are a few other strange folks in our road - me included. But let me get to the point, our street, in a little village, is going to have its own CCTV installed. They are putting them up in a lot of places now but this street is not a crime hotspot, we have very few burglaries, car crime etc. It is generally quite a peaceful place to live. Now what has got me annoyed is the fact that this is a residential area with little crime, what a waste of money. We don't have facilities for our teens; the money could have surely been better spent there. The small amount of crime we do get is because the teens are bored! Another thing that I am a little annoyed/pissed off about is the fact if they do erect this pole to hold the camera it could well be outside my kitchen window. WTF? They'll know that I do the washing up in my underwear and that I cook a full dinner at 3am! lol It will feel intrusive. Someone potentially watching your every move. The whole thing just seems a waste of time and money and do we not have enough of Big Brother?!

Buff went to the vets.

Not such good news about Buff. The vet said he was old and had quite a slow heart rate as well as slightly swollen lymph glands and "noisy lungs" hence the cough I took him for. All these symptoms coupled with what facts we know about his history led her to suspect one of the immune diseases was possibly the root cause of his problems. She tested him for leukaemia and FIV (feline AIDS). I was able to take him home and she gave me some antibiotics to give him to see if they help with any infection. The blood results came back as positive for FIV. Her advise was to have him euthanized within the next few days because he could pose a risk to other cats. I will minimise his contact with neighbourhood cats and make sure my other two don't eat off the same bowl as him and things like that but I am not ready to let go of my ugly/beautiful Buff just yet. My duty as a pet owner will of course mean that I will have to do what is right by Buff in the end but for now I will give him the antibiotics, put him on a high protein diet and minimise  any stress. I  believe I will know when the time is right to have Buff put down but that time isn't just yet. It is definitely depressing news but I will have to try to treat him as normal and try not to look at him as dead cat walking. As long as he still has a decent quality of life I am happy to carry on. I won't let him suffer, we love him to bits. ♥

Buff update. Or not.

So after I had worked myself up for the trauma and potential upset of taking Buff to the vet-  it didn't happen. The little bugger went out at 5am and didn't come back til 6pm thus making any vet trip impossible until after the weekend. Which means I will have to steel myself all over again. Even now he has gone out. I am beginning to wonder if he is checking out another home.

Of course with the benefit of hindsight it was a mistake to let him out but he is an outdoor cat and goes ballistic if you try to keep him in. He hadn't had his breakfast so I was pretty confident that he would be back but he must have heard us plotting and stayed well away. Although I am making light of it I am genuinely quite worried about him. He has a bit of a cough and given his age and condition I would have preferred to have had him seen today.  He WILL go next week!!

Poor green eyed Spike

Today was a very sad day. The stray cat (Spike) me and Max have been feeding had to be put to sleep. The past few weeks we have watched her health slowly deteriorate and yesterday we noticed her stomach had ballooned in size. For a while we were thinking she might be ill but this stomach swelling really just developed in a matter of 2-3 days. Her breathing was weak too. We didn’t know this cat very long but in just this short time we had begun to bond with her, every time we opened the front door she was there with her big green eyes staring back at us, purring and asking for food. It is just so sad; she was such a sweet little cat.  What I think upsets me the most is not only that she was seriously ill but nobody was taking care of her, loving her. We were feeding her the past couple of weeks but what about before then? She wasn’t being cared for, her last few months was not in comfort.  I feel guilty because what if we had taken her in sooner? I know now there was nothing we could have done to change this outcome but we could have made her life a little happier. Did we do the right thing by taking her to the vets now? These questions are really aimed at myself. The sensible grown up part of me knows this was right and the kindest thing to do it just hurts when you have to make that decision. What has happened with Spike is now leaving a painful question - do we get Buff looked at? We don’t know where Spike originally lived but we’ve had our suspicions that Buff has come from the same home. All the clues point to that. The thought of taking Buff to the vet and then being told he too has leukaemia is ripping my heart out. Just the thought of it is too much. We love him to pieces, he is our third baby.  All three of the cats are more than just pets they are like children, part of the family and the thought of losing any of them is just agony.
Fortunately Buff is making steady progress he is putting on weight, eating and drinking copiously, he is happy and he doesn’t seem to be ill. But the question is still there – he is content and happy now but what if he does have Leukaemia any symptoms might not show for a while. But then knowing, is that a good thing? If he does have this illness they cannot cure him.  It is all leaving a heavy weight in my stomach I can’t sleep thinking about poor sad Spike and our Buff. I guess me and Max are going to have to do some serious talking.

I think I am going to have to try and get some rest, even if I don’t sleep I need to lay down and relax it’s another early rise tomorrow. I want to thank  [livejournal.com profile] sandy_s  [livejournal.com profile] colour_me_sassy [livejournal.com profile] astartexx and [livejournal.com profile] dualbunny for leaving comments on my last wallpaper. <3 I'll catch up with ou all soon. Why?!

I've been watching the news all morning and it is so shocking. I have never understood why terrorists target normal people going about their daily lives. Don't they realise that our governments don't listen to us! Do they think Tony Blair will change any of his policies because of these bombs? Thankfully it seems that the loss of life has been mercifully small. It has been obvious for ages that something like this was inevitable so it seems the emergency services were well prepared. It seems to me that this is making a point not just to the G8 summit but about how vulnerable London would be during the 2012 Olympics. THAT really doesn't bear thinking about.

My thoughts are with the injured, their families and the families of the dead.

Help make the change!

"Every single day, 30,000 children die, needlessly, of extreme poverty.

On July 6th, we finally have the opportunity to stop that shameful statistic.

8 world leaders, gathered in Scotland for the G8 summit, will be presented with a workable plan to double aid, drop the debt and make the trade laws fair. If these 8 men agree, then we will become the generation that made poverty history.

But they'll only do it if enough people tell them to."

We can all do our bit to make poverty history. It's not about putting your hands into your pockets and giving them our money, it can help short term but what really needs to be changed is the trade system, Africa needs to be given the chance to work itself out of poverty. Africans don't want our charity what they want is the chance to build their own future. They want to feed their children, feed their families, work and make a living. We are crushing the lives out of Africa. As part of the world’s richest nations it is our duty to stop this shameful, crippling injustice.

Please do all you can to make this change. Politicians can't ignore us in numbers.

Visit Live8 and sign the petition. All the signatures will be handed over to the 8 men who have the power at the G8 summit. Have humanity sign this today if it's the last thing you do. http://www.live8live.com/

Or you can get a banner for your site; or request a white arm band from http://www.makepovertyhistory.org every small show of support counts.

I'm alive

If any of you were wondering.

The work has finally started on my bathroom and kitchen. It is so disruptive. I have water and electric back in the kitchen now, after they left me without it overnight on Thursday. Unfortunately because they pulled the tiles off the floor, leaving a sticky residue, I can't get in there to use the cooker anyway. Hopefully it will be sorted on Monday when they are due back. I can at least use the bathroom but that isn't finished either. They spend a lot of time apparently doing nothing these workmen. The place is driving me nuts at the moment. Nothing is where it normally is and there is nowhere to store anything so it is all just cluttering up the floor. I have no idea where I will put everything when my living room furniture arrives.

Still no workmen today so I can slob around and devote the entire day to watching Live8 on the TV.  Once upon a time I would have been on my way to Edinburgh, with my placard, for the Make Poverty History rally. These days’ campaigns have to make do with me writing strongly worded letters to my MP and banners on my website. I miss my radical youth!

It is difficult to get access to my computer amid all the chaos but hopefully I will be able to catch up after next week when fingers crossed the workmen will have finished and I will take a short break from decorating before embarking on the uncharted territory of laying carpet.

Other stuff -

My neighbour's nervous breakdown finally came to the attention of the relevant authorities and he was carted away in an ambulance along with what seemed like a rather excessive police presence. A number of the neighbours were openly staring. No curtain twitching for them, oh no, they came out of their houses to get a better view. A shame they weren't more interested when he was going quietly mad for all those months. He is going to have to come back knowing people were enjoying a show at his expense. I feel sorry for him he is a nice guy who let life get the better of him.

My mother-in-law has been told it will cost her £2000 to re-paint the outside of her house! This seems completely over priced to me. They were expecting it to be no more than £800 which is a lot more reasonable. If they have to fork out that much money it will be more or less the last of their retirement money.

Sassy has finally been given a full arm cast. It's a pretty one in a lovely shade of purple. lol

I never made it to Pride this year. From what I've heard from everyone else they had a ball.

We have another new furry visitor to the house who is in a worse state than Buff. I really don't know if it's going to make it much longer. I think it is probably beyond our help. We've named him Spike. :(

I've not done any art for a while but I have done 2 more vidbites which you can view from here. The first one is Jenny from the L Word and the second is Sun and Jin from Lost.

I will catch up with you all soon. Have a good weekend. :)

Lets talk curtains

You know what really pisses you off is when you pay near £100 for quality , made to measure, tailored to your needs curtains  and what arrives on your door is a pile of old crap. They look like caravan curtains! *crys* the material and the workmanship is totally sub par its so not right. When I was planning my budget to do up the flat I had only so much money for curtains, nets, lampshades, cushions etc so its quite a major pain in the arse. I have no money now so I've got to look at these rejects for the foreseeable future. I suppose that's what you get for buying at an online store!

On another note I have one new wall. Dr and Rose. 1024x768 (click the thumb)

Just a short catch up...

So I've finally finished the painting in the living room, I've put up the new net curtains, the new lampshade, the new clock etc I'm just waiting on the carpet and sofas to be delivered. So everything is back in place and I can finally get back to the computer and catch up on posts I've missed. It's not the end of the renovations I'm still waiting on the builders to come and work on the bathroom and kitchen. All fun stuff and so grown up. I wish I was better at DIY but sadly I am mostly limited to slapping some paint on the walls and I have to admit I am a little scared about the carpet laying cos I really can't afford to muck that up.

Now that I've got a bit more time on my hands I have been catching up with some of my DVD rentals. Maybe it was just the paint fumes but "Princess Diaries 2" made absolutely no sense and was very disappointing given that I had rather low expectations of it in the first place. It was nice to see the actor who played Mason in Dead Like Me though. I miss that show. Lemony Snicket was a lot more fun. I don't know the books but I liked the black humour of the film and even Jim Carrey was watchable.

I also caught up on Doctor Who I've really enjoyed this revival it is such a pity that Christopher Eccleston has decided to leave. Still his replacement was great in "Casanova" so I have high hopes for the next season.

After so much prodding I finally watched QAF (the first 2 eps of season 5). I wasn't expecting to like it but I did. I was intrigued enough to get the first season (though I haven't had chance to watch any of those eps yet.) How come nobody told me it wasn't just Brian and Justin fucking after watching the vids how was I supposed to know there were other charcters and plots and stuff. Mel and Lindsey seem quite annoying but I am hoping thats just the custody issues making them crazy.

I've recently obtained a new addition to the family. The semi feral cat I have been feeding for a few months seems to have adopted us. He just kind of moved in. In honour of this we have had to change his name from "that scabby cat" to "Buff" (after the noise he makes when he gets excited). Anyway here he is in his bed. He has hardly any teeth, his fur is a bit thin and man does he stink but I love him. And because they get jealous I have included my other two cats who are much prettier and less smelly and yet strangely less well behaved.

Update about Sassy...

I just wanted to let you all know Sassy has now had her operation it took 6 hours to do. Sassy is doing okay and she will be out Monday at the earliest. I've passed on all your well wishes :)

I'm not going to be around much on LJ for a while, I'm in the middle of decorating so my place looks like a war zone (The comp is in here somewhere but I can't always find it lol). Anyway I'll try to keep up as best I can. Thank you all muchly for the great feedback on my video! I'll respond to any specific comments when I get some time. :)

Another day..

I just want to say thank you to everyone who left kind messages for me in my last entry. I appreciate you all doing that. I don't feel so alone. Hugs.

It's nearly the weekend so the people I am waiting on will most likely not be in touch until Monday. It's a long time to wait but I will keep myself busy, try not to dwell on stuff...

It's my little sister's birthday on Sunday she is 16! That is a shocker lol.

House stuff

So a few of you know I'm renovating my house or flat shall I say. Well it's going slower than I was anticipating I need to wait longer before I can lay the carpets. The new kitchen and bathroom will be installed in 4-6 weeks time. I'm still doing the paintwork in the mean time. Hmm so yeah I was just going to show you a pic of the new sofa's I've ordered. Not bad for my price range! I will have more pics [livejournal.com profile] astartexx as time goes on.

So was this a dull post or what? lol I'm just passing time, I can't sleep.
I will have more interesting posts to make in future. Maybe..

Oh and I'm in the middle of making a Logan/Weevil video! First vid for this pairing isn't it? It's damn hard work but hopefully it'll turn out ok. :D
