Notes: So, I decided to remaster this video because a few folk requested a DVD version. That wasn’t my only reason but it was the final push I needed. Of late I’ve been thinking about remastering a few of my older vids and this came first because I thought this would be the least difficult. That was what I thought anyway...but truthfully it was a bitch. Most of my problems related to timing and colouring. I know what I did before but the same thing didn't work second time around. Of course I have fixed the timing but the colours are not the same as the original. In fact I think the colours are even better and that is one of the things that I wanted to fix with the new version. The other main difference is visual quality! Back in 04 I was still making vids at relatively small file sizes. This version is bigger and much less muddy . Let’s just say I have learnt a lot in the past 18 months. I did make a few changes in clip choices, not many, and only chosen to make it flow better. This new video, though slightly altered from the old, still remains true to my original idea. It was made as a "mood piece" and that is what it is.

About the DVD version - I have never encoded to NTSC DVD before (PAL for me) so I hope that is all okay. I followed vividcon's guide which was pretty straightforward on the matter. If any problems do arise please tell me and I'll fix it!

Anyway, I've very glad I finally got around to doing this; I think it was worth it. I hope you guys approve. :)

Oh wow...

This is *so gorgeous*. Like, breathtaking so.

And there's just so much flat out *coolness* in it too! All of those seamless transitions and wipes and fades and freezes and glows and echoed movement and colors and just *wow*. Really really stunning.

I think hypnotic is a good description of what I wanted for the end result so I'm glad that worked.

The wipes were the most difficult part of the vid because I wanted them to look quite organic and soft rather than copy the straightforward horizontal wipes the show uses. It wasn't helped by the fact that I hate doing transitions in premiere pro. I always end up with a stray frame at some point.

I did want to keep the original ending but I couldn't get it to work properly. The timing was always off. The crappy image quality of the original masked what a shabby mess it really was.

The program I use is Adobe Premiere Pro for editing and occasionally After Effects for tidying it up and for some specific effects, sometimes I use photoshop for creating masks etc.

Thanks a lot Mary. :D I think using the Furies this time round worked. I wasn't so sure at first, because Furies, usually not so much sexy, more on the weird side. It broke up the vamp section quite nicely though I think!

Oh and I took a look at the rec on your lj and I like the description you gave it "Watching it feels like taking a long hot scented bath. Possibly with an Amazon or two." It sums up the vid beautifully.

Hi! You don't really know me, but I just added you to my flist because I really like your vids -- hope you don't mind. Anyway I just got to dl Boom Boom Ba and I think it's amazing. The sexiest vid I've ever seen despite its having no real sex in it. The dancing (oh, the dancing), the parts with the water, the song choice, the camera motion, it all worked really well. The show never appealed to me but the vid truly drew me in. Sorry this is coming quite awhile after you posted, but I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed it. :)

Read in your comments about the DVD-NTSC version, that you created it following vividcon's guide. I looked through their posts over the past year but could find anything referencing instructions for converting. Probably missed the big flashing sign. Do you remember where you found the conversion guide/instructions?

I used a program called procoder to actually do the converting.

There is a free and easier alternative where you don't need those instructions it's called "LlamaEnc" you just install it. It's very easy to use.

Here via the vividcon Color Explosion vid list, and I have to say that this is easily, without a doubt, the most gorgeous and mesmerizing Xena vid I have ever seen. Soemtimes I forget how much pure sensuality is in the series, mixed up as it is with the comedy and action elements; I don't think I'll ever forget again, now. I don't have much technical knowledge about vidding, but the cuts are absolutely perfect and it took me multiple viewings to realize you'd cut in footage from Xena's seduction of Iolaus from way back in H:TLJ along with everything else. Timing, color, clip choice . . . wow.

I couldn't really ask for anything more in a Xena vid at all, I think. I can't stop watching it either! Excellent, brilliant work. Thank you so very much.

Thank you so much. It was great fun to focus on this aspect of the show. I didn't realise myself how many scantily clad women there were in Xena until I started clipping for this vid. I think the show only got away with it because of the cartoon violence.
