I'm your Man

If you want a lover
I'll do anything you ask me to
And if you want another kind of love
I'll wear a mask for you
If you want a partner
Take my hand
Or if you want to strike me down in anger
Here I stand
I'm your man
If you want a boxer
I will step into the ring for you
And if you want a doctor
I'll examine every inch of you
If you want a driver
Climb inside
Or if you want to take me for a ride
You know you can
I'm your man

Ah, the moon's too bright
The chain's too tight
The beast won't go to sleep
I've been running through these promises to you
That I made and I could not keep
Ah but a man never got a woman back
Not by begging on his knees
Or I'd crawl to you baby
And I'd fall at your feet
And I'd howl at your beauty
Like a dog in heat
And I'd claw at your heart
And I'd tear at your sheet
I'd say please, please
I'm your man

And if you've got to sleep
A moment on the road
I will steer for you
And if you want to work the street alone
I'll disappear for you
If you want a father for your child
Or only want to walk with me a while
Across the sand
I'm your man

Ahhhh! I love it!

Multi-vids for the win. On first watch, the sections that jumped out at me were the sad section, with the woman falling off the building (I'm guessing from your other vid that that is how the Cry Me a River girl ends up?)--was that section about denying sexuality?--and the violence section, with Faith and Buffy and Juliet and Kate (rowr, how did I forget that?) and knives and corsets.

And, of course, the Syd and Anna kiss never gets old, for me. :)

Another stunner--Willow painting on the back of not-Tara. Heh. Well, that's a gorgeous cliche, anyway.

ETA: Thought the pan up the woman in the beginning (a mix of pans from different sources) was also awesome.

Hot, amusing, amazing in its scope, and cheeky as hell. I'm sure I'll find tons more to adore in subsequent viewings.

Love it!

YAY Thanks!

You've gotta love the multi vids, how can you ever not? The sad section as you pointed out is really about the "dead lesbian syndrome." We die a lot. Such a lot in fact that I narrowed the cliché down to suicides/apparent suicides. Paulie from Lost and Delirious (Cry Me A River) looked to have committed suicide because her relationship with another girl went wrong and she was shunned. The girl from Hex hadn't actually killed herself but everyone assumes she has cos that's what's expected. Obviously it is way more complicated than that but you get the gist, I hope? Basically, lesbians rarely get the happy ending.

The violence section, ahh, sexual tension, love and hate. The knives section always feels to me like Buffy saying "You call that a knife?, that's a knife!"

The throwing off of the corset early in the vid is about liberation and no longer being bound, literally of course, and by the shackles of womanhood. The early section is made up entirely of period pieces because passing as a man was the only real way to throw off those shackles, the vid opens up later in the same way that options for women opened up.

Cheeky is definitely the tone I was going for. It is an affectionate pisstake rather than angry rant.

Syd/Anna OTP!

Thanks for explaining all those sections--I've heard you mention the "dead lesbian syndrome" before. How galling.

"You call that a knife?, that's a knife!"
I love it when you add verbal commentary to your vids--great insight into your thought process.

Definitely got the liberation from the corset early on--love the transformation into a man montage. Works on tons of levels, not the least is its fit with the sung-by-a-woman version of the song.

Anyway, fab!

Heh, I should do that more often. Generally, my motto is: let vids speak for themselves but I'm always happy to explain my process if asked I just don't like to foist my burbles on others unnecessarily.

Butting in here, but "Dead Lesbian Syndrome" is definitely a trend. I remember discussing it in my queer lit class in college - particularly in reference to pulp novels in the 60s, I think. You'd have one girl kill herself and the other goes back to the straight and narrow path, if I'm remembering correctly. Of course, the trend has definitely continued since then, or you wouldn't have so much source for the vid.

Anyway, I thought it was really cool how you had all those different trends and such (your cliches) in the vid.

It would be nice to think that particular trend was a thing of the past, I'm not convinced though. I had so many clips to choose from for that section it was quite depressing. The "proper" lesbian dies and the "nice girl" goes back to being straight it's definitely a reoccurring theme.

I'm glad you enjoyed the vid.
