And so with the ending of Dr Who a long summer of rubbish TV begins. (spoilers ahead) I did love the finale though. You can’t really go wrong with an army of daleks. This series has held my interest throughout partly because the focus has been more on time travel than space travel and I’ve always found travelling in time the more interesting concept. For the most part it has been well written, well acted,  even the special effects are reasonable and God knows that has so often been a failing of British Sci-fi , gone are the days of wrapping a hairdryer in tin foil and calling it a ray gun.

I used to watch Dr Who as a kid but I was never a huge fan and I probably missed some of the nuances but it seems to me that the new series is quite a bit darker than the original show, moral ambiguities abound and the Doctor himself is not always a cosy character to identify with.  Christopher Eccleston   has done a great job and I can only hope that David Tennant can do as well. The chemistry between the Doctor   and Billie Piper’s Rose has been an absolute joy. Thank God the Doctor finally got an assistant that can do more than run down corridors screaming. No this one saved the world!

The finale had it all.  It was finally possible to see why the daleks are the ultimate Doctor Who monsters –no more jokes about them not being able to climb stairs or having sink plungers for weapons. Nope these daleks are mechanical Nazis, the off screen massacre in the space station was genuinely chilling.
And we got kisses- three of them- Doctor/Rose/Jack are the coolest love triangle ever I completely renounce Lost’s Kate/Sawyer/Jack.  Oh and poor Mickey, a decent guy who just can’t compete with the excitement the Doctor offers Rose.

Russell T Davies is fast becoming the God of British drama writing hopefully he will continue to have a strong input into Doctor Who.

Anyway it will be Christmas before we get the chance to see the new Doctor in action.

YAY, i'm not the only one that was watching it! I had only seen bits and pieces of the old show but this one drew me in after the first episode. I liked the fanil too, and I'm hoping that Jack will be back, i thought he was a kick ass character. But there was so majorly weird and fun chemstry between the three of them. Whatever it is the show just has a great flow to it. And the Dalek are freakin creepy.

I know it's the summer wasteland but not here, I got new Deadzone's, 4400's, Stargates' and Battlestar Galatica. In the US Fall is the Scifi wasteland. Summer is the hot zone.

Yeah the chemistry between those three is good. My concern is that with a new actor as the Doctor, rumours that Billie Piper is leaving and no news on whether Jack is returning that the cool triangle might be completely broken up in the next season.

That is a fine selection of summer scifi I've never managed to get into the Stargates and I was a bit put off by the alien abduction premise of 4400. What is Deadzone? Oh and for BSG do you need to know any of the old series mythology to be able to understand it?

yeah, i heard about Billie Piper. That sucks. Jack has to be back, they wouldn't have left him alive if they weren't gonna try to bring him back. And part of me didn't feel it was a triangle, it seemed more like a threesome to me. Sorry I just thought that would be a lot more fun.

Deadzone is based off of a Steven King Book, it’s about a guy (Anthony Michael Hall) got into a car accident and was in a coma for six years, when he woke up he get’s visions of the past and future by touching things. It’s in it’s 3rd or 4th season.

And actually the 4400 weren’t abducted by aliens but abducted by people from the future on earth, to save mankind, but there are a couple of x factors. it's done by the same people that did star trek DS9.

BSG is completely revamped from the original series. The mythology is completely different

It was definitely a threesome none of the annoying angsty stuff of a traditional love triangle.

Sounds like I'll be giving BSG a go then. The other two sound a bit too involved for new viewers and It is the middle of a heatwave so my brain function is fairly minimal at the moment.

I haven't watched all the confidentials so I must have missed that one. It is a bit freaky when that happens though.(about MLC) It shows they've got good taste! lol

Latest news (possibly unreliable, but I think it's supposed to be pretty solid) is that Billie signed on for the whole second season. Jack also is supposed to be back in the second half.
On a side note, I really like that "Every Me Every You" video you did; in fact, a while ago I watched a lot of your older Buffy/Angel vids and now's a good a time as any to say that you're easily the best vidder I've seen.
So you should make a Who vid, so I have something good to watch :-) The Who fans try, but...it doesn't always work out.

"Billie signed on for the whole second season. Jack also is supposed to be back in the second half." It would be great if that turns out to be true. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for the comment on "Every Me Every You". I would say I was far from the best vidder but I appreciate the compliment. I do plan to do a Who vid by the end of the summer I just need to get hold of all the eps.
