The End of my TV viewing until the Autumn

And so with the ending of Dr Who a long summer of rubbish TV begins. (spoilers ahead) I did love the finale though. You can’t really go wrong with an army of daleks. This series has held my interest throughout partly because the focus has been more on time travel than space travel and I’ve always found travelling in time the more interesting concept. For the most part it has been well written, well acted, even the special effects are reasonable and God knows that has so often been a failing of British Sci-fi , gone are the days of wrapping a hairdryer in tin foil and calling it a ray gun.
I used to watch Dr Who as a kid but I was never a huge fan and I probably missed some of the nuances but it seems to me that the new series is quite a bit darker than the original show, moral ambiguities abound and the Doctor himself is not always a cosy character to identify with. Christopher Eccleston has done a great job and I can only hope that David Tennant can do as well. The chemistry between the Doctor and Billie Piper’s Rose has been an absolute joy. Thank God the Doctor finally got an assistant that can do more than run down corridors screaming. No this one saved the world!
The finale had it all. It was finally possible to see why the daleks are the ultimate Doctor Who monsters –no more jokes about them not being able to climb stairs or having sink plungers for weapons. Nope these daleks are mechanical Nazis, the off screen massacre in the space station was genuinely chilling.
And we got kisses- three of them- Doctor/Rose/Jack are the coolest love triangle ever I completely renounce Lost’s Kate/Sawyer/Jack. Oh and poor Mickey, a decent guy who just can’t compete with the excitement the Doctor offers Rose.
Russell T Davies is fast becoming the God of British drama writing hopefully he will continue to have a strong input into Doctor Who.
Anyway it will be Christmas before we get the chance to see the new Doctor in action.

Date: 2005-06-21 04:34 am (UTC)Deadzone is based off of a Steven King Book, it’s about a guy (Anthony Michael Hall) got into a car accident and was in a coma for six years, when he woke up he get’s visions of the past and future by touching things. It’s in it’s 3rd or 4th season.
And actually the 4400 weren’t abducted by aliens but abducted by people from the future on earth, to save mankind, but there are a couple of x factors. it's done by the same people that did star trek DS9.
BSG is completely revamped from the original series. The mythology is completely different

Date: 2005-06-21 02:07 pm (UTC)Sounds like I'll be giving BSG a go then. The other two sound a bit too involved for new viewers and It is the middle of a heatwave so my brain function is fairly minimal at the moment.
I haven't watched all the confidentials so I must have missed that one. It is a bit freaky when that happens though.(about MLC) It shows they've got good taste! lol

So you should make a Who vid, so I have something good to watch :-) The Who fans try, but...it doesn't always work out.
