Video Title:I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor
Song Title/Artist: I Bet You Look Good On the Dancefloor - Arctic Monkeys
Show: Life On Mars/Ashes To Ashes
Summary: The Gene Genie gets his groove on.
Length/Format: 2.53, (Xvid, Stream)
Notes: Premiered at Club Vivid, Vividcon 08.
What struck me most about the differences between LoM and A2A wasn't so much the difference between 70s and 80s but more the socio-economic and regional differences. My 1980s childhood looked much more like LoM than A2A. I went out of my way to make comparisons between Alex's Middle class 80s London and Sam's working class Manchester. In case anyone was wondering the title sequence was heavily influenced by "The Sweeney."

I Bet You Look good On The Dancefloor

Stop making the eyes at me, I'll stop making the eyes at you
And what it is that surprises me is that I don't really want you to
And your shoulders are frozen (cold as the night)
Oh, but you're an explosion (you're dynamite)
Your name isn't Rio, but I don't care for sand
And lighting the fuse might result in a bang, b-b-bang, go!

I bet that you look good on the dancefloor
I don't know if you're looking for romance or
I don't know what you're looking for
I said*, I bet that you look good on the dancefloor
Dancing to electro-pop like a robot from 1984
From 1984!

I wish you'd stop ignoring me, because it's sending me to despair
Without a sound, yeah, you're calling me, and I don't think it's very fair
That your shoulders are frozen (cold as the night)
Oh, but you're an explosion (you're dynamite)
Your name isn't Rio, but I don't care for sand
Lighting the fuse might result in a bang, b-b-bang, go!

I bet that you look good on the dancefloor
I don't know if you're looking for romance or
I don't know what you're looking for
I said*, I bet that you look good on the dancefloor
Dancing to electro-pop like a robot from 1984
From 1984!

Oh, there ain't no love, no Montagues or Capulets
Are just banging tunes and DJ sets and...
Dirty dancefloors, and dreams of naughtiness!

Well, I bet that you look good on the dancefloor
I don't know if you're looking for romance or
I don't know what you're looking for
I said, I bet that you look good on the dancefloor
Dancing to electro-pop like a robot from 1984
From 1984!

Feedback loved.

That was great fun! If I wasn't already contemplating a re-watch of both shows this would have had me doing just that.

Loved it! The second half was particularly stunning :D I'm not sure why but I feel Lom and a2a are surprisingly difficult to cross-over - you make it look so easy!

Thank you. The shows look and feel so different that crossing them over took some thinking about but I think I managed it in the end!

The energy is so high and it never really lets up. I like the way you matched the visuals between Sam and Alex. Well edited. The mishmash at the end is well edited and is very cool. Cool ending as well. The whole thing is amazingly fun to watch and it totally makes me want to dance.
From: [identity profile] charmax.livejournal.com
I'm glad it made you want to dance because there was some concern as to how danceable it was, with the song being so frantic. Perhaps it made people want to dance and then they did to the next track.

I got a lot of satisfaction out of editing this one particularly getting the overlay sequence to work because that was a bit of a departure for me.

Thanks, Kiki.

This is wonderful: nicely fast paced to fit the song, with great, sharp editing. I always wanted to see a LoM vid to this song, after someone suggested it in the comm ages ago... the LoM/A2A parallels really work well.

O My! That was amazing! I really love how at the beginning it looks as if Alex is screaming and running down those stairs because Sam jumped of the roof. And i love how Annie sneaked her way through.
Thanks!

I'm glad you felt that Sam and Alex were part of the same scene at the beginning because I felt it looked that way but wasn't sure. I had to have some Annie she gets overlooked so often.

Thank you.

Awesome. The editing was great, and you made the song really work with both shows. And I think the contrasting worked really well.

This vid also convinced me that need to go and buy the LoM DVDs.

Finally I had a chance to watch this! Now please allow me a moment to throw myself at your feet and thank you THANK YOU for vidding LoM/A2A!!!!!!!!! Srsly, leprechauns are doing cartwheels because I'm so happy watching this. I love the rhythm, I love the car transition from 1:08-1:10, the ending, and 1:42 is pure lawlz. Gah I srsly love you right now.

Date: 2008-08-20 04:30 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] charmax.livejournal.com
Wow, Thank you. Cartwheeling leprechauns, really?!

I love these shows so much and A2A got such a bashing I had to put them together to show their equal but very different charms.

I do love the car transition but that's definitely the last one I'm doing for a while. I've become far too reliant on car chase sequences and need to find a new way to use a musical bridge.

This was one of my absolute favorites from Club Vivid. As I was dancing and watching, I had this litany of "damn, how does she do that? how does she create such perfection?" running through my head. HAHA. I'm a dweeb. Still, it knocked my socks off, especially the way you shifted the object of the lyrics: it was always someone different "looking good on the dancefloor."

Brilliant work!!

It's great to hear a comment from someone who was actually at Club Vivid and it's brilliant to know that people actually danced to it. It almost makes me feel like I was there by proxy.

Thank you so much for saying such lovely things about the vid.

(I know I'm running late to the party.)

I love it. It is so awesome!
I watched it streaming the other day and then spent the rest of the day raving about it to people so I'm downloading it so I can actually show people.

I haven't even seen A2A, but I love this vid! It is truly fantastic. The pacing is quite addictive - there's no way I could start watching this, and not watch it all the way through, and then preferably do it all over again.

It's great that it held your interest even though you haven't seen Ashes to Ashes, I guess I must've got it right! *g*

Ooh, this was awesome! I absolutely love the pacing of the vid, and the overlapping part at the end was so, so well done. (And I LOVE that title sequence.)

Here via someone's VVC rec list! Hope you don't mind.

Here randomly - loved this video, and I don't know the source all that well. I didn't think a fan video could cope with the speed of that song, but it truly does.

The speed of the song was a bit scary at first, glad you feel the vid could live with it.

Thanks for telling me how much you enjoyed it.

That's it, you are officially a master editor. I loved the way that you had the beat spinning around Sam at the end, and the way that you stuck with LoM in one part, and then A2A in another - and the quick cuts, so many of them! Just marvelous!

Haha, I don't know about that but thanks anyway.

I'm so pleased you liked the vid, it's structure and it's fast cuts. I really appreciate the feedback, thank you.
