If your mom was just about to turn 50 what would you buy her? Jewellery maybe? The thing is I don't know my mom very much at all and her 50th birthday is a big deal. She did want to go up in a hot air balloon but that doesn't look likely to happen now as her health hasn't been good (She has diabetes and her hypos are out of control). Oh and the weather. We got our first lot of snow today; it's pretty deep and hard, not all fluffy. So back to the subject of my mom’s birthday it's on the 20th Dec. Is jewellery a good option? It's not likely to offend is it...? She does like porcelain dolls but I have no clue whatsoever of brands. Which is a good make/quality etc. Another thing she likes is ornaments. Again not sure what type. Brass maybe...

What would you do/get for a mom you barely know? Hmm

While I'm here I just want to pimp this new [livejournal.com profile] colorizations community. Also [livejournal.com profile] art_battle if you have time please join up to both. Go on its fun! :D

ETA: I would just like to thank you [livejournal.com profile] astartexx, anon and [livejournal.com profile] bunnythenavia for your suggestions.

^ Hermann Spielwaren collectable bear.

Lets hope she likes them!

ETA: x2 My mother is going up in a hotair balloon. Not my choice but my sisters... Hmmm.

Jewellery is always a good option. But I really like the china dolls, they are expensive and if she is a collector it's likely that she has the most joy with one of those. Perhaps you could ask someone, which one she wants? One of the best gifts me and my sister gave my mom were portray photos, she cried tears of joy.

And now I have to check your art battle result, my grandma had her 86th birthday today and that meant big cleaning yesterday and backing two cakes. Plus I was already in the mood for some furniture moving, so we finally got the two commodes from my late grandma from the garage, oh, I'm rambling onto the field of honor now!

I would love to get her a doll but she does have soooo many and she likes the really expensive stuff, I just don't think my budget could stretch to £250+ And I don't think I can ask the rest of my family what they think...What I am thinking now is something along the lines of pictures of the grandkids imprinted onto a leather bag and purse... It might not sound great but I think it's quite nice. That or jewellery...

I've seen your battle - I shall go comment shortly once I've caught up with a couple of other posts. Happy Birthday goes to your grandma. I hope she has a nice time yesterday. :D

I'm not good at getting gifts, but the family pics on the bag is a good idea, though some people would see it as "omg, i'm so old, i can't believe you got me something like that!" Does she like any genre of music? That's always a good gift (maybe not for a big event as this). If she doesn't, you could expose her to your own music and then you'll share an interest. Another idea is to buy all kinds of small things (stamps, gems, crystals, small stuffed animals etc etc), spend the day with her and give her every once in a while another small thing. Goodluck!

Hello. I've been trying to download your video The Hat I Got For Christmas over at Bronze Ambition and can't get it to work. I do the usual right click and save but it never seems to work. Am I doing something wrong or is there a problem with the file?
That is one of my all time favorite vids and when Christmas rolls around I get the urge to play it again. Thanks so much for making it btw.

Hi,
Are you going to the page with the image on? When you go to the Buffy category there is a list of vid titles, left click 'The hat I got for Christmas' and you should be taken to it's own individual page. You download where it says "Download WMV 10.3MB"

I've checked the file and it downloads fine. If this isn't the problem then I am not quite sure what to suggest.

The neckless is beautiful and the bear is really sweet but his eyes are a little creepy :-D

Your mother is lucky to go up in a hotair balloon. Is she going solo or is it with other people?

Ah thanks Ben now I am having second thoughts about the bear! It's not meant to creep my mom out. lol

As far as I know my mom is just going up with the instructer... it's far to expensive to have a few of us going up.
