Friending...

If I have recently friended you it's because I am fed up with the lj hopping. I have added you because I like to watch your vids, see your art, just read you generally because you are interesting. There is no need to friend me back if you don't want to; most of my posts consist of art, vids + memes - not a lot of meat. If you are currently on my list and want to make an escape now, go ahead. I won't hold it against you. If you have friended me and I have not added you back, I'm sorry. If I do this it's because I feel we have very minimal in common, we never communicate or unlikely to ever comment on each others posts.

So with that out of the way - Hi new folk. :)

As for my cat and LoM, Bailey is so cute and he is growing so so fast! He has big clown feet now. Hahaha. LOM tonight! I cannot wait. *excited dance*

Thanks. Just wanted to explain why I haven't commented on some of your entries recently. I do read them all. My friends list is still manageable. Better be a good "friend" to some than a bad one to many, y'know? ;)

The post above is not a friend cutting post it's just to say something to all the new folk I've added in the past couple of days. It's just a general statement.

I passionately hate celebratory "friend cutting posts" ("Thank you for the wonderful times we had, it was fun to have you in my life for a while."). It creates a false sense of intimacy that was never there in the first place. LJ provides you with a reading list, and who knows, some of your readers might become your friends eventually (Unless you defriend them because you never want to get to know them that well). ;)

Me, too. John Simm said that the first episode was fantastic, and I really hope it can live up to my expectations. On the other hand, my reactions to the teaser and the trailers consisted of unreasonable squeeing, so I'm sure I'll be amazed no matter what.

I really hope Sam won't die in the end. Or if he does, I don't wanna get spoiled. I don't want any spoilers for the show, actually. I enjoyed the pre-show buzz here and there, and I also liked the teaser and the series trailers, but I won't watch the upcoming episode trailers because they give too much away.

I totally understand, but I want you to know I don't expect you or anyone else to comment all the time on all my posts. Hell, I don't that often. You just can't comment on everything and not everything that is posted is of interest.

Yeah, same here. A few people on my flist seem to love 'em, though, and I just don't get it. And they are adults. Ah well. Must be early spring cleaning or somethin'. ;)

I'm disappointed, too. There were scenes that I liked, but it seemed they were trying too hard to make it work. It felt rushed. The writers shouldn't have tried to put everything in that very first episode. Less would have been so much more.

I think I'll write a more or less detailed review as soon as I have the time. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts if you wanna share 'em.

I've just realised that I've only got one LoM icon at the moment. Must rectify that.

The first ep just didn't hang together quite as well as I was expecting. It would've been nice to see creepy test card girl. If there are only 8 eps then they need to pick the pace up a bit otherwise it'll be one of those shows where they throw everything at you in the finale and it never quite answers all the questions.

I watched the second ep when it aired on BBC4 and I have to say that was a bit of a let down. I'll leave you unspoiled though.

I think we'll see her again at some point; afaik the writers said that they'd try to bring everyone back to resolve as many storylines as possible.

IMHO, they're moving too fast. Episode 9 should have been a two-parter; it seemed to me that the writers lost focus by focusing on too many plot points: Sam being crazy, Sam being by the book, Sam liking Annie, Sam not feeling at home in 1973, promoting Annie, promoting Ray, Gene doing things by the book, Sam being even crazier than ever, a Nemesis for Sam et cetera. It kind of felt like Episode 4 meets Episode 6, but the payoff wasn't there.

I just saw the second ep (Episode 10) and all the time I thought that the ep would have been a better series 2 premiere episode than Episode 9.

I agree that it was a bit of a let down because they'd already covered bent coppers in Episode 4. I get it that it provided a neat opportunity to compare Sam's mentor to Gene's mentor, but I think I would have rather liked to see a good old-fashioned robbery or murder investigation instead. Still, I enjoyed the ep. Won't be one of my favorites, but the pacing was much better and it didn't feel 'off' to me.

Episode 9 reminded me of the late X-Files mythology stories when the wheels had already come off the wagon, y'know? The scenes didn't flow. They didn't feel connected. Sam couldn't connect them for me. It was difficult for me to identify with him and understand his point of view. It wasn't John Simm's fault, it just... didn't fit. It was happening too fast. Sure, it must have sounded good and might have looked great on paper, but it didn't gel. *sigh* I visited TRA and most people LOVED the ep there. I really wanted to like the ep and to understand Sam's motivation and feeling, but I couldn't. I'm not too fond of Episode 6, for example, but I could feel for him and with him during the ep.

What did you think of the second episode (Episode 9) if I may ask? You've got me curious now... ;)

I get what you mean about ep 9 and to some extent I agree. It seemed like it was trying to remind us what the set up was whilst at the same time evolving that set up. So, yes I agree they could've swapped the eps round so that the bent copper ep could reintroduce us to the characters and what their reactions to things are. It would also reaffirming Sam as a fish out of water with regard to racism within the force and also highlighting a aspect of the 70s that doesn't fit in with cosy nostalgia.

The trouble was that ep 10 felt a bit too much like an ep of The Sweeney and not enough like LoM.

The problem I had with the season premiere was how quickly Sam was willing to embrace the idea of fitting someone up. He went from "By the book" to planting evidence at break neck speed and with no apparent problem with his conscience. That just didn't ring true and also made his character a little bit less likeable.
