post a list of your top five favorite vids you've made, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. this isn't about the BEST things you've made, but what you LOVE most. then tag five other people to do the same.

Some of these are far from being my best ever editing but each of them mean more to me on a deeper, personal level than anything else I've made.

In no particular order.

No Bravery - Troy
For me it's a statement about war. It's how I feel about war. There are never any heroes and thousands of years later humanity has still learnt precisely nothing.

Strange and Beautiful - Buffy the Vampire slayer (Xander/Buffy)
This is kind of my swan song in the btvs fandom and I poured all my love of the show into it and then never really recaptured the magic. The melancholic tone seems particularly fitting under the circumstances.

Tears & Rain - Veronica Mars
Like Strange and Beautiful this has quite a sombre tone. It's how Logan was for me in season 1 and I feel like I captured him and the moment (I really want to remaster this one at some point)

Boom Boom Ba - Xena
I love this because it's sexy, sultry and it's Xena and Gabrielle. What's not to love?

Club Foot - Life On Mars
This is *my* British show. It makes me feel unusually patriotic, like I should get the flags out. It feels like home, not just the show but the song as well, it always makes me nostalgic.

Thank you so much for doing this. I just took a break from work and watched them all -- yes, even Boom Boom Ba. *g* I don't think I'd ever seen the Buffy or VMars ones, and I'm not sure if I might have watched the Troy one once, but (stupidly!) didn't save it, so it was fresh. The other two I've watched many times, natch.

The Troy vid is, wow, so much better than the movie. Sigh. It has everything I loved in the movie, and it has a cohesive and beautifully illustrated theme, and it's not three hours long! Heh.

Taken all together, it's so obvious why I find your vids so rewarding and satisfying. The songs you choose and the way you carefully focus emotion with the facial expressions and pacing make each vid so rich with emotion. Plus, you have such a good eye. Everything you do is beautiful, even when the editing is perhaps less sophisticated, or simpler, than some of your flashier vids.

I confess, I have a huge soft spot for Buffy/Xander, and it was such a pleasure to watch a gorgeous vid for them I hadn't seen before. :)

It was quite difficult doing this actually, to say which of my vidbabies I love the most is playing favouritism and I don't really like to do that. Narrowing them down to 5 when I've made over 40... Yep looking back, quite a few of them are crap but they meant something to me at the time of making. *g*
I was going to name a 6th vid in the meme but it probably wouldn't have stopped at that.

There is an overwhelming pattern in my vids, certainly the earlier ones (putting my attempts at humour aside) of angst/emotion and focusing heavily on interaction and expression. It's something I've always loved in other people’s videos ;) and it's something that I wanted to try and capture myself. I'd say all of the above have those elements. Recently I think I have deviated slightly from my "norm" to try different styles/focus (it's great to experiment!) but I think it's something I always come back to, I feel that's where my strength is in vidding.

Anyway to get to the point - I'm glad you could see past the shoddy editing and appreciate the fledgling beauty. :D

Reading your comment I feel like I should have been in more agony while choosing my five, when it was so simple.

‘No Bravery’ and ‘Tears and Rain’ are the two I tend to rewatch when I feel like hopeless melancholy is in order and they capture feeling down perfectly. Perhaps the reason why I miss ‘Suicide Note’ on this list, among ‘Strange and beautiful’ your most gut-wrenching vid. ‘Boom Boom Ba’ is scorching hot and I love the images and golden colours in all their glory. (I would only switch it for ‘Protégé Moi’ in my mind, because that hits more of my personal kinks and boys praying for deliverance still gives me the taste of ashes and burned dreams.) So anyway, great list, love!

I found it really difficult to pick just the 5. Maybe I should have promoted some of my more recent stuff, a lot of which I do love but I went with the ones that had most meaning to me personally. That's why "Strange and Beautiful" edged out "Suicide Note" it was a close call though and on a different day I might have picked some of my more upbeat vids. I just happened to do the meme during one of my grumpy days.

Mmh, I’m not sure, if the upbeat stuff has the same impact, than the issue-laden ‘I want to rip your heart out and then stomp on it for a while’-vid, even when you vidded both. It’s just not a fair competition in my mind and I probably underestimate the force of humor here and it’s such a long time since I made a truly upbeat vid, but the heavy stuff tends to burn itself in the long time memory. So beside your grumpy day, your list rings true for me. *nods*

I know you've always been inclined towards the dark and angsty side of things but I can still be seduced by the power of an amusing or uplifting vid. I can't imagine you doing a truly jolly vid these days. Still, your angst is so entertaining, why would you bother with anything else?

I was reading this going "Ooo, I love that one! And that one!" repeatedly. :D Except for Club Foot because I am saving that for when I have watched the show. ;}

It was so hard picking my five because there is so often some section in them that makes me glare at the monitor chanting "look at that! What was I thinking?" So these five are the ones I still love despite that.

You haven't watched Life on Mars!? You don't know what you're missing. Plus, there are some really great vids for that show.
