Hi *waves* yep, it's been some time. I have my new computer, it's all sorted and it's "The Beast" with red flashing lights like a cylon. 'Tis cool. Vista has been absolutly fine since I took off all the extra crap that slows it down. It really is no bother. I had heard all these horror stories before I went and bought it but now I can't see what all the fuss was about. Pfft I say. *g* I think I'm pretty much ready for Vividcon now, Club Vivid and theme show vids have been uploaded and I have a non-attending premieres vid that may or may not be ready in time. Talking of vids, I've been searching around for a better streaming service because Imeen is really not doing much for me anymore. I would even go as far as to say Youtube is better. So, with that, and not finding any other real alternatives (Vimeo and Veoh don't work for me) I have decided to upload my vids there. I will still be keeping Imeem I'm just wanting that extra option.

ETA: The Beast.

YAY! gotta love a new computer. I had no trouble with vista either, I think most problems happened when people upgraded xp to vista. Because of program conflicts and tweaks that just make you want to pull your hair out. Or so those countless hours calming my father down over the phone lead me to believe when he tried it.

Yeah, youtube i think just upgraded their streaming quality. Imeem never seems to have gotten the range as other streaming sites. i miss stage 6 lol. Even though it wasn't vast, it was still... nice. lol.

Yeah, I can see there would be more complications with an upgrade. And now they have brought out Vista service pack1 which has got rid of some of those bugs. At the moment I'm really not seeing much difference between XP and Vista, it's early days still but I'm getting on great with it so far.

Youtube definitely looks to be better quality these days. I am sick to death of the ads on imeem! It is a shame about stage6 I really liked that place. :(

Its mostly style, trying to keep up with the Mac OS. Basically trying to add the cool factor in with alot of flash and little substance. But certain things run more efficant and some other things i noticed when i first got in december.

I was so angry when i saw the notice they were shutting down, just seemed unfair.

HI!

I've been working Vista as well and the only problem I haven't been able to fix is the COM Surrogate.

I've been digging Vimeo for streaming, but I haven't heard of another place lately.

Hi!
COM Surrogate? I don't know what that is.

Vimeo just wouldn't except any of my vids.

I'm not exactly sure what COM Surrogate is, but it always fails and asks me to close the program. I think it has something to do with the thumbnails.

Ohh, I had to convert mine to divx before it would take them.

No not heard of COM Surrogate. Just browsing about now though I came across this (http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/fix-for-com-surrogate-has-stopped-working-error-in-vista/) and this (http://wiki.phoenixlabs.org/wiki/Com_Surrogate_error), any help to you?

My vids are all Xvid so I don't know if that'll make any difference.

Sadly, I've tried all those. It's not a major problem; it's just annoying.

I'm not sure what the difference between xvid and divx even are...

Oh ok.

Not much as far as I know. I get better colour management from Xvid so that's why I choose it over Divx.

Turning the thumbnails off would work, but I want to be able to preview images in my folders, so I let it go.

I'm so technologically ill-prepared. I pretty much go with what I can do the easiest. DivX is the easiest for me to convert to, so that's what I use. One day I'll understand and get better, but until then... :)

Yay, you're back! We can be XPS buddies! Can't wait to hear what it's like to vid with. I've not had time to make one on mine.

Yeah we could bitch about how the great huge lumps are breaking our desks.

I've not done any serious editing yet but when I played around my sexy new machine renders at superfast speed and doesn't collapse in a messy heap the way my old comp used to. Everything else seems much the same. I know After Effects and presumably other programs as well are only able to access 2GB of memory by default and so my extra gig hasn't made much difference there. No more crash and burn though that's the main thing.

LOL, desk? I've had to put mine on the floor! It doesn't even fit in the compartment under the scanner tray like my old hard drive did. *g*

He sits all on his own on a very sturdy, solid wood, 3 door cabinet. Kinda like a pedestal. He shines. :D

I was away when you posted this .... I have system envy.

The TFT has me drooling ...may I ask its dimensions? (my nephew has a new one that was I think 24" and could swivel - I tried to smuggle it out but wouldn't fit in my handbag.)

I bought the TFT about 18 months ago, it's 21" and it does swivel. I love it! I probably couldn't have afforded this tower if I'd needed a new monitor as well.
