charmax: (Sweet Charity)

My neighbour's smoke alarm has been going solidly for 48hrs and it's driving me nuts. He is in hospital and no one will do anything about switching the damn thing off. Arghhhh. It's fitted to the mains electricity so at the moment there is no hope in sight. The bloody council! It should be their job to sort it out as he's their tenant but they won't get off their arses to do anything about it, even after 3 phone calls. Maybe I'm not assertive enough or maybe they're too lazy. WTF?!

Has anyone seen that Brit show "Grumpy old women"? That's what I've become.

you could always call the fire dept. they may bust down the door to get inside to make sure no one is there, but then maybe your landlord will listen next time you ask them to at least be kind and turn the noise off.

Unfortunately the fire brigade are satisfied that there isn't a fire and therefore aren't interested. I phoned up the council again and they have managed to locate a relative who has a set of keys. He won't/can't come out until WEDNESDAY!! If he fails to show up or doesn't do anything then we have to go through the environmental health dept to get it classed as a noise problem and then the door can be forced open apparently. By which time I would have been listening to this ringing for nearly a week. It's deafening!

you know...you could call them again.... apolgetically saying "I know you guys looked through the window and could not see any fire. but I swear I keep smelling something gas like. Could you send someone inside to check? I'd hate to think something bad were to happen because they failed to respond to a fire alarm for 2 days or even enter the place to check it out....."

It's a good idea but I'm pretty sure it's not going to work... they already think I'm a prank caller or something. I should have phoned them when it first started and said that I could smell smoke and I thought someone was in there. It's just too late for that now.

I'm seriously thinking about going to stay in a local hotel for a couple of days and send the council the bill. *grumble*

Oh my god. That can't be right. I'd phone enviromental health now. I mean 48 hours must be long enough to for it to be considered a noise problem. Wednesday is far to long for you to have to put up with that. I'd keep ringing the council and enviromental health until they get fed up and have to do something about it. I'll keep my fingers crossed the batteries run out soon! hugs x

If it ran on batteries then maybe it wouldn't be so bad (batteries don't last very long do they?) but I think it's actually hooked up to the mains electric.

What I'm going to do tomorrow is phone the council yet again and possibly email A-----'s SW. See where that gets us.

Thanks hun.

*hands over ear plugs*
How about breaking the goddamn door and charge on the alarm? ... too violent. Anyone in the neighbourhood has a key?

Thankfully I already have ear plugs. Tempting as it is to smash the door down I think I will see how a legal solution goes first. ;)

Of course none of this compares to the kind of crap you're having to put up with. *hugs*

Crap is crap. Feel free to moan as much as you like. I know this this kind of crap would make me climb the wall as well ;).
