Video Title: The Wreckoning
Song Title/Artist: The Wreckoning - BoomKat
Fandom/Character: Heroes, Niki-Jessica
Summary: Jessica pov. It's all about the jekyll & Hyde, the love/hate, the sub/dom, the protector/protected relationship of Niki and Jessica.
**swear words and possible spoilers** Length/Format: 2.12 (Xvid)
Notes: This is part 2 of the ongoing vid/let challenge with
astartexx (part 1 was "Protege Moi".) Astarte gave me the song but didn't specify any show or character, Niki/Jessica just spoke to me. The major problem was how to get across the concept of Crazy Brain Twin. The video feels disjointed very much like the two characters. As the video was set as a challenge it gave me the opportunity to experiment a lot more with effects and come out of my comfort zone a bit. Some of these are more subtle and some are in your face. For those who haven't seen the show Jessica's the psycho with the tattoo but honestly that won't help much because even when she's not on screen she's still sort of there. It's probably the one time where pov confusion is actually intentional. lol
Feedback is loved.

Date: 2007-03-06 11:18 pm (UTC)Have to agree the comic book style panels added another dimension to this video which I thought was a clever way to get more of her into the vid all at the same time.
Top stuff!

Date: 2007-03-11 03:01 pm (UTC)You know I've heard this song used before, but this is the first vid that I think really lived up to its potential. I loved the brisk pace and the effects you used, especially the 'box-y' one that often looked quite comic book. ;)
Niki's story was one of my favorites when the show first started, but I kind of lost interest as it progressed. The is a great overview of what makes her and Jessica so interesting. Will definitely be looking at this storyline with renewed interest when Heroes comes back from hiatus. Fantastic work, as usual. :)

Date: 2007-03-11 04:42 pm (UTC)I think the song is just right for the character and you're right I suppose the boxes do have a comic book feel at times. It was a device that served me well in terms of cramming the stuff I wanted into a couple of minutes worth of vid.
I have to agree that Niki's story has kind of lagged behind all the others for a while now. There was the big reveal of the split personality early on and since then it's all been fairly predictable. I still have faith that it will all come good in the end.

Date: 2007-03-15 05:24 am (UTC)unhealthy obsessionsprimary viewing commitments. In short, I don't know a lot of the canon but I really enjoyed this vid, great song and a really cool exploration the dynamic in this unusual relationship.Favorite Moments:
:07 - :10 - Love this clip, especially the way you slow it down on "veins."
:26 - :30 - The timing in this section really works for me.
:49 - I love all the split screens but I especially like how you use the gunsight here.
1:04 - 1:07 - I really like how viscerally you can feel the interactions here, you really get a sense of the interplay between these two people.
1:42 - 1:46 - This whole sequence just kicks ass, pure and simple.
Anyway, I really liked this, thanks for posting!

Date: 2007-04-07 06:01 am (UTC)Really unexpected song choice, to use a breakup song to show this fractured relationship between the two selves (or are they?).
Just NIFTY.
Re: The Wreckoning
Date: 2007-04-07 08:25 am (UTC)Although I love them in the finished product the split screens drove me nuts during editing. Any slightly clumsy keyframing caused much whackiness on screen. Grr.

Date: 2007-04-07 08:58 pm (UTC)I rather adore this vid -- it grabs you and whirls all over the place. It felt incredibly polished throughout, even when the cutting fractured to match the personalities. I think the split/comics design worked incredibly well, on both a purely visual level, and to match Jessica/Niki's personality.
In summary: this is incredibly shiny.
